Curious about cross stitch and clay

For reasons unknown to me I decided to learn how to cross stitch this weekend.

Once a month my closest friends and family hang out at my place and participate in craft nights. So far we have done felt, embroidery, wet clay and polymer clay. This weekend we decided to play with clay once again, so I stopped at the craft store to obtain a couple more tools. Naturally I got more than what I needed… including a cross stich kit.

I sometimes think that I can do anything and my track record confirms this. I CAN do anything but to varying degrees of success. Cross stitch is one of those things I’m already starting to feel successful about. Am I doing it efficiently? No. Am I doing it neatly? Also no. But I am doing it and the progress is really exciting.

Last night I relaxed before bed by watching American Dad and working on my little project. I feel like I need a magnifying glass just to see the pattern properly (crying face). I’ve also been doing a stitch or two in between games of Overwatch. It’s more rewarding than just doom scrolling on my phone I suppose.

Believe it or not, this is going to be a misty forest scene. Eventually.

As I mentioned earlier, clay was the theme for our latest craft night. In the time it took my friend to make 3 or 4 really neat key caps and a button, I managed to make a simple pair of earrings. When thinking of a design my brain likes to go to the things I already know and like- and what do I like more than good old Monster energy drinks. Naturally I need to show my love for them by wearing miniature versions on my ears.

The process was simple but it did take some patience to get the cans particularly tubular and also to make the tiny green M’s. The top and bottom of the cans I actually just made from cutting out clay with a pen cap. I already have the hardware for earrings (I was really into beading earrings a bit ago) so that part was a breeze.

I think they turned out really well, if not a bit dinky. I took a picture of them with my frog earrings I made at a previous craft night.

Frogs and energy drinks. What more can you ask for?
