I had a rare weekend where I did more crafty things than gaming. Who do we have to thank for this irregularity?
Myself, naturally. I cleaned my living room for the first time in a while and even had a candle going for most the day. It amazes me every single time just how good a clean house feels. And soon after I forget and let my place get to a disabling point of messy once again. However, we will cross the bridge when we get to it.
I’ve started working on pieces for my zine: Video Game Informant. The goal behind my zine is to showcase a variety of video game related content created within my circle of loved ones- and created with them in mind. I don’t want to spoil too much of what I have planned because some of my homies read this blog and I want there to be a few surprises- keep the whimsy alive and such.
I will share a little watercolour piece I did, featuring my very first Webkinz as an adult: Gizmo.
The general story behind this is that I got into Webkinz again recently (an online pet game) and it had me considering the many different formats of games. I have a lot of nostalgia for the different browser games that popped up in the early 2000s- and I especially hold a soft spot in my heart for any game that involved adopting a pet and taking care of them.
I also really liked playing the browser games on the Garfield website but that might be a discussion for another time- I feel I could write a whole appreciation post for it… Maybe some garf games will make it in my zine.

I did a small collab with my friend and fellow artist who added the text around the heart, shout out to him.
Working on my zine had me thinking about video game journalism, so that’s an other thing I got into this weekend. Not contributing, just trying to find well written and articulated articles of varying topics. I read through a couple thought provoking ones that covered the age old topic of video games ≠ art. What do you guys think?
Moving on.
When I was at work last Friday I was able to participate in some MMIW (Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women) centric crafting. We did beading along the edge of a red dress pin. Red dresses are symbolic to MMIW and is supposed to bring attention to the missing and murdered Indigenous women across Canada (which is a big enough issue that it gets an entire day to recognize the movement…)
Anyway, I do have beading experience but I’ve never done beading around the edge. It’s a technique to finish a project so to speak. I’m really happy I finally learned how.

I think I have one more blog post in me before I go traveling for the spring break. Although, maybe my travels will spark some creativity and you will hear from me sooner than I think…
